Although they had played together in various groups since their first meeting in 1939, the partnership between Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie really took off in 1945. The Parker / Gillespie group only lasted until early 1946, but they continued to play together on different occasions, such as the amazing 1953 Massey Hall concert, and the 1951 Birdland broadcast that opens this album, which also features the marvellous Bud Powell.
This collection also contains all other Birdland broadcasts featuring Bird and Diz together, as well as two complete bonus sessions at other venues showcasing their magic combination of sounds.
